The SS Wexford

Dive the SS Wexford shipwreck near Grand Bend. There is a lot to see on this amazing 250ft long wreck. With a max depth of 75 feet you will have lots of time to enjoy swimming through the open decks filled with ambient light.

The SS Wexford is a steel-hulled, propeller-driven, cargo ship built in 1883 and disappeared on Lake Huron with all hands on November 9th, 1913 during the Great Storm. Her cargo at the time of loss was 96,000 bushels of wheat.

Divers discovered the SS Wexford on August 25th, 2000, sitting intact and upright in 75 feet of water at the bottom of Lake Huron. On the 100th anniversary of her sinking, the crew placed a copper wreath to honour the lost crew.

Cost

$150 + HST for a two dive charter

Not Included: tanks, scuba gear & gratuity.

Diver Level

• Advanced Open Water
• Must have cold water dive experience
• Charters are Tech and Rec friendly

Dive Conditions

• Max depth 23 m / 75 ft
• Thermocline at depth 10-20°C / 50-70°F
• Drysuit or 7mm wetsuit with hood and gloves
• Charters are unguided. Full dive site briefing will be provided
• No scuba gear, tanks or weights included

Boarding & Departure

Departure: Grand Bend Marina, 57 River Road, Grand Bend.

Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure time to load your gear.

Boarding Instructions:

Arrive extra early to this popular marina. Park near the boat dock to load your gear on the boat. Assemble your gear at your car, walk it on and secure it. Partially don your wetsuit/drysuit at your car before you board. Please leave all big dive bags in your car. There is dry storage in the wheelhouse for wallets, phones etc.

Diver Responsibility

Divers are expected to follow safe diving practices. This includes:

• Dive within certification level and experience.
• Logged 1 dive in the last 6 months.
• Practice good buoyancy control.
• Manage air consumption & dive plan.
• Dive with cold water scuba gear in good condition.
• Use appropriate exposure protection for water temperature.
• Unsafe divers putting themselves and others at risk may be asked to leave.

If you haven’t dived in a while or have only dived in warm water we have options. We offer services such as: pool rental, weekly shore dives, divemaster hire and the PADI ReActivate Course. If you have any questions, concerns or would like assistance with your diving please let us know. We are happy to provide guidance and training on how to improve your skills and experience level as a diver. Divemasters available for hire.

Booking Terms and Conditions

Dive charters are non-refundable.

Cancel up to two weeks prior and receive a store credit.

If the boat operator cancels due to weather then receive a credit or refund.
