Bell Island Newfoundland Trip Highlights
This year we embarked on a new adventure to Bell Island Newfoundland to explore the beautiful World War 2 Shipwrecks (Rose Castle, PLM-27, Lord Strathcona and the Saganata), as well as the possibility of getting to test the waters in the Bell Island Mine, sea kayak around Conception Bay and snorkel with Humpback Whales out of Petty Harbour.
We knew little about the trip other than the diving was going to be phenomenal, however, we didn’t know just how high that level of phenomenal was going to be.
It’s always nice to escape and go dive a new location, but this trip just proved yet again why Canada is the best place in the world to dive.
Having dove Scapa Flow in Scotland last season, we were blown away with how much better the diving in Newfoundland was here and in how much better shape the ships were. Many of the wrecks still have artifacts on them, are pretty well fully recognizable as their former selves and the water is crystal clear with some beautiful sea life throughout the area.
